We are pleased to announce that alongside our programme of steam train day trips, we will also be running a range of classic diesel charter trains this year.

A number of locomotives are planned, including Class 37s, Class 40s, Class 47s and Class 97s, with destinations set to include Aberystwyth, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Newquay, Penzance, Carne Point and Plymouth.

2026 diesel tours include:

The Atlantic Voyager – Saturday 2 May

Travel behind two Class 47 heritage diesel locomotives from the Midlands and Bristol area to the popular seaside resort of Newquay.

The Aberystwyth Coastal Voyager – Saturday 6 June

Journey behind Class 47, 97, and 37 diesel locomotives from London Euston to the Cambrian Coast resort of Aberystwyth.

The Mazey Day Cornishman – Saturday 27 June

Take a trip behind two Class 37 diesel locomotives from the Midlands and South West England to Penzance to enjoy the Mazey Day festivities in Cornwall.

The Slate Miner – Saturday 15 August

A memorable rail journey from Oxford via the Midlands and along the North Wales coast, before heading up the stunning Conwy Valley Line to the slate town of Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The Cornish Branchliner – Saturday 19 September

Join us from Crewe as we travel through the Midlands and the South West, enjoying classic main line climbs, the dramatic Dawlish Sea Wall, and a rare run down Cornwall’s Fowey branch to Carne Point.

Kelly Osborne, The Railway Touring Company’s MD, explains  “There is still great interest in classic diesel and we aim to cater for that with our new diesel trains operated in conjunction with West Coast Railways.

“We look forward to keeping classic main line diesel alive alongside our schedule of steam and have exciting plans for both in 2026.”

Charles Paget, Business Manager Charter & Special Trains for West Coast Railway Company, added, “With over 30 years of experience, West Coast Railway is delighted to have the opportunity to work with The Railway Touring Company to develop and deliver a programme of special diesel operations aimed at the enthusiast. This will complement their already well-established and very successful UK main line steam operation plus their very successful overseas world tour business.”
