A Rare Chance for Danish Main Line Steam

Enjoy a splendid European rail holiday in the vibrant city of Copenhagen, with the very best of Danish steam.
Danish Steam Weekender - Thursday 10 December to Tuesday 15 December 2026
This is one of the last opportunities to experience Danish main line steam out of Odense with the DSB K Class 4-4-0 tender locomotive No. 563, built in 1899.
The continued roll-out of digital ETCS signalling has put severe limitations on main line steam operations in Denmark, with very few suitable routes now remaining. With just one operational main line steam locomotive available at the main museum base in Odense and only four operating days each year, opportunities to enjoy Danish main line steam are becoming increasingly limited. Major boiler work is also expected on the locomotive soon, and it is unknown whether it will be able to operate beyond 2027.
Tour highlights include:
- Time to explore Copenhagen and its Christmas markets
- Danish main line steam out of Odense
- The K Class 4-4-0 tender locomotive No. 563
- Visits to Danish heritage steam railways
- Denmark’s National Railway Museum at the Odense roundhouse
