The Valentines White Rose
Saturday 13 February 2027
Celebrate Valentine’s with an unforgettable day out aboard our special main line steam train from London King’s Cross to the historic city of York. Whether you’re travelling as a couple, with friends or simply enjoying your passion for steam, this promises to be a memorable journey to one of Britain’s most beautiful historic cities.
We leave London King’s Cross in the morning hauled by our steam locomotive and follow the East Coast Main Line route of famous express trains such as the Flying Scotsman. We storm up the gradient through Gasworks Tunnel and Finsbury Park before heading northwards, calling at Stevenage, Huntingdon and Peterborough to pick up more passengers.
As we head north, we leave the ECML at Werrington Junction and travel north easterly to Spalding. Following the Great Northern line to Spalding North Junction, we take the Sleaford line to Sleaford. From here, we head westwards to continue our journey towards Lincoln. We then steam through Doncaster and continue northwards for our early afternoon arrival in York.
There will be plenty of time for passengers to explore York and enjoy all that this wonderful city has to offer. Take a romantic stroll through its historic streets, discover the famous Shambles or admire the magnificent Gothic York Minster. Other attractions include the National Railway Museum, the city walls, fascinating museums, quaint alleyways and a wide variety of shops, cafés and restaurants.
Our train leaves York late in the afternoon and we retrace our outward journey, stopping to set down passengers at the same stations as on the northbound journey before arriving back at King’s Cross in the evening.
With the romance of steam travel and time to explore one of England’s most historic cities, our Valentine Special offers a wonderful way to spend the day with someone special.
