Join us for an unforgettable main line steam-hauled journey from London King's Cross to the historic city of York, where the famous Christmas Market will be in full swing. With festive stalls, seasonal attractions and world-renowned heritage sites, York offers a wonderful day out for all ages.
Our adventure begins at London King's Cross behind one of Britain's magnificent steam locomotives. Following the route of legendary express trains such as the Flying Scotsman, we charge through Gasworks Tunnel and Finsbury Park before heading north along the East Coast Main Line. En route, we will pick up passengers at Stevenage, Huntingdon and Peterborough.
Leaving the East Coast Main Line at Werrington Junction, our train takes a rare and scenic route via Spalding, traversing former Great Northern lines through the Lincolnshire countryside. From Spalding North Junction we continue via Sleaford and Lincoln before heading north through Doncaster for our early afternoon arrival in York.
Passengers will have ample time to explore everything this magnificent city has to offer. York is home to the National Railway Museum, the largest museum of its type in Britain, as well as the world-famous Shambles and the magnificent York Minster, one of the finest Gothic cathedrals in northern Europe. Visitors can also enjoy walking the ancient city walls, browsing the many independent shops and cafés, or soaking up the festive atmosphere of the Christmas Market.
In the late afternoon we rejoin our train for the return journey. Once again hauled by steam, we retrace our route via Lincoln and Spalding, setting down passengers at the same stations served on the outward journey before arriving back at London King's Cross during the evening.
A festive steam-hauled day out combining spectacular railway heritage with one of Britain's most historic and atmospheric cities.
