Steam Train Tours in Europe
Opportunities to travel by steam train in a number of European countries are on offer in our programme of Europe Tours. Many of the trains are specially chartered for our tour party and some travel over unusual routes rarely used by passenger trains. An interesting variety of steam locomotives representing various track gauges is included.
Each year we provide an ever changing programme of tours and even those with the same name or visiting the same country will have a different itinerary and programme of activities. We highlight for your particular consideration the following completely new tours - Steam in Saxony; Austrian Steam Safari; Finland; Germany, Austria & Switzerland. Our new tours always attract early bookings in good numbers so we suggest that if your choice is one of these tours, you book without hesitation to avoid disappointment.
We revisit countries that are always in demand as destinations for our tours including Italy for Steam in Tuscany, and the island of Sardinia and the Emerald Coast; Switzerland for Highlights of Switzerland, and Swiss Steam Express; Norway; and Bulgaria for the Black Sea Express. The popularity of these venues is evidence of their attractiveness for the perceptive traveller and if you are new to rail tours abroad we strongly recommend that you consider one of these for 2013.
Northern Europe is well represented in our programme this year with tours to Sweden for Swedish Steam Safari; Finland; and Norway. This is the first time that we have arranged a tour in Finland and we are pleased to report that the country is not only teeming with lakes, forests and wildlife but also has a fine selection of operating steam locomotives. We shall make the most of this opportunity and hope that you will join us.
Some of our tours offer ‘never to be repeated’ experiences and for 2013 this includes Steam in the former Yugoslavia and the Golden Arrow. The former visits Slovenia, Bosnia and Serbia where steam traction is in decline and may soon disappear. The latter recreates a famous British named train from the past for the part of the tour en route to and from France. Please consider booking now to avoid missing out on these exciting ventures.
